General

With few exceptions, car donations are generally accepted regardless of whether they are running or not. The only instances where older cars might not be accepted are when their value would not cover the expense of towing.
We accept cars in any condition.
If we are unable to repair your car, it will be sold at an auction to potential buyers or recyclers who are interested in purchasing its parts and metals.
We can pick up the car as long as you have a copy of the death certificate and documentation that you are the official inheritor of the deceased’s belongings.

Pickup

CarsForTheCause collaborates with a wide network of towing agencies that are professionally licensed, bonded, and insured across various Canadian provinces. These agencies are responsible for picking up car donations. You can expect to be contacted by them to schedule a convenient pickup time, and the service is provided to you free of charge.

We accept car donations in most areas throughout the Canadian provinces.
The average pickup time for car donations is usually 24-72 hours from your initial contact with us.
No! Just clean the car of any personal belongings and leave the keys and ownership document under the dashboard.

Document and Plates

When filling out the ownership document, it is crucial to sign your name as the “Seller” in the Application for Vehicle Transfer section exactly as it appears on the front of the ownership document. Please ensure precise matching.

If you intend to turn in your plates or transfer them to another vehicle, remember to retain the plates portion of the ownership document.

In most cases, we are able to pick up your car donations even if you don’t have the ownership document. To confirm the specific requirements for your situation, please contact us at (647) 937-7983 or email us at info@carsforthecause.ca.

However, we will still need an alternative form of ownership, such as the registration, during the pickup process. After the pickup, we will get in touch with you to provide further instructions for obtaining a duplicate ownership document from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) or the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

Before your car is picked up, please remember to remove the license plate. In Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, you have the option to transfer the plates to another vehicle. Make sure to register this change with your local Motor Vehicle Authority.

If your license plates are not due for renewal, you can return them to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for a refund. In Quebec, you can remove the plates from the vehicle during the pick-up process and submit them to the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

As a registered charitable organization, CarsForTheCause will provide you with a receipt for your vehicle. The receipt will indicate the fair market value of your car, determined based on wholesale auction averages. You can expect to receive this receipt approximately 4 weeks after your car is picked up by our organization.
